Animation FAQ

What is animation and how is it different from a video?

Animation is the implementation of movement within image assets. Overall, the biggest difference is the technique; a video can be taken of anything at anytime, while an animation has to be created through careful planning, graphic design, and movement development.

What kinds of animations do you create?

All kinds! We can create website animations, social media animations, animated videos, interactive animations, fully-animated websites, and more.

How much does it cost to create an animation?

We price our services based on time, so it could be anywhere from a few hundred to several thousand depending on what you’re looking for.

Since it can be difficult to know the full extent of any animation project before we begin, we will typically request a down-payment for the initial conceptualizing phase, and bill an hourly rate as we go.

What is included in the cost?

All animation services include conceptualization, planning, graphic design, and animation development.

How long does an animation project take?

It really depends on what we’re building for you! Basic animations can take us a matter of days, while large-scale projects can take multiple months to complete.

What program(s) do you use to animate?

We use a variety of softwares, depending on the needs and scope of your animation. These include Adobe Animate, Edge Animate, Adobe Aftereffects, Adobe Premier, and Autodesk Maya. Of course, we also use Adobe Photoshop & Illustrator to create the graphics.

Why don’t you use Adobe Flash for animations?

Technically, we can use Adobe Flash if you are absolutely set on it. But there are a lot of reasons that we prefer not to. Mainly, Flash causes several technical problems online and isn’t guaranteed to work on every device.

What is an interactive animation?

Simply put, an interactive animation moves when you interact with it- such as by clicking or hovering. We can program animations to perform different tasks when different actions occur, so that your project is a fully-interactive experience.

Who owns the rights to my animation?

Before we start on the project, we will ask you what you intend to use it for. When the project is finished, you will be given the rights to use the animation for that purpose.

What if I decide to use the animation on something else later?

No problem! Just let us know, and we will issue you an additional license for that purpose. An additional charge may apply depending on what that use is.

If my animation needs a script, will you write it?

Yes, we can absolutely do that! Script writing is priced based on the running length of the final script.

Can I use my own visuals for the animation?

Yes, but please understand that visuals need to be broken down into smaller parts for animation. This means that we will still need to recreate your provided visuals before the animator can add movement, so you may not see a large decrease in overall price.

What happens if I change my mind during the project?

No problem! It’s one of the biggest reasons that we bill these projects hourly. If you change your mind and want to go in a different direction, we are more than happy to work with you to give you exactly what you’re looking for!
